LOT NOTES
Iconographically, the Vladimir icon is of the Eleus type (Tenderness). The icon of the Theotokos of Vladimir is described as expressing universal feelings of motherly love and anxiety for her child. A distinctive feature of the Vladimir icon from other icons of the type of Tenderness: the left leg of the Infant Christ is bent in such a way that the sole of the foot, the "heel", is visible.
