SOUVENIR DU COURONNEMENT DE LEURS MAJESTES IMPERIALES A MOSCOU, 1896 [The Coronation of Imperial Majesties in Moscow, 1896], (St. Petersburg: R.V. Pets, 1896). Ten color plates as well as a decorated title plate depicting Nicholas II clad in the uniforms of the 10 regiments under his command, from the drawings by Hugo Karlovich Bacmansson (1860-1953). Limited edition - the following souvenir album was distributed to only to esteemed guests at the Coronation of Nicholas II and Alexandra Feodorovna. Enclosed in the publisher`s folder embossed with silver. Every plate captioned in Russian and French at bottom margins. 39 x 52 cm (15 3/8 x 20 1/2 in.). Very rare as a complete set.

LOT NOTES
The present copy belonged to Aleksandr Nikolaevich Meller-Zakomelsky (1844-1928), evidenced by his stamp on the top left of the inside front cover. Meller-Zakomelsky was a Russian Baron, Adjutant-General, General to the Infantry, and a member of the State Council. A decorated general, Meller-Zakomelsky participated in military conflicts such as the Khivan campaign (1873) and the Russo-Turkish War (1877-78), and was active in the suppression of the revolutionary movement. In 1906-09 Meller-Zakomelsky was appointed as the provisional Governor-General of the Baltic region and in 1909 to the State Council. Following the Revolution, the baron emigrated to France, where he died in Nice in 1928.

The artist of the plates Hugo Bacmansson was a Russian-Finnish painter and graphic artist best known for military art. Born in 1860, Bacmansson received his education at the Finnish Cadet Corps, and later became an officer of the Izmailovo Life-Guard Regiment as well as a lieutenant colonel. In 1884-1899 Bacmansson studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts and was active in St. Petersburg. In the 1890s the artist traveled throughout Europe (France, Germany) and northern Africa (Tunis, Algier), creating an extensive series of travel etudes. During the Russo-Japanese War he was employed in Manchuria. Bacmansson began participating in exhibitions in 1889, namely at the Imperial Academy of Arts (1889, 1890, 1896, 1898, 1899, 1908), the Saint-Petersburg Association of Artists (1897-1917), the Society of Russian Watercolorists (1899, 1903), and an exhibition of artists of the Academy in Paris (1921). Following the Revolution, Bacmansson emigrated to Helsinki in 1918, where he died in 1953. His works are held in the permanent collection of a number of museums, including the State Russian Museum, the Research Museum of the Russian Academy of the Arts, the National Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan and others.
