NADEZHDA ELSKAYA (RUSSIAN 1947-1978), "Church, Flowers, and Chains," 1975, oil, lace, rope, chainlink and mixed media on canvas, 80 x 64.5 cm (31 1/2 x 25 3/8 in.), signed and dated lower left. PROVENANCE: Acquired from the artist Evgeny Rukhin in Moscow; Private Collection, USA. This rare painting by an artist who died tragically young, was acquired by an American stationed in Moscow during the 1970s, who bought it directly from Evgeny Rukhin, and it has stayed in the same collection since then. A member of the Lianozovo group of artists, Nadezhda Elskaya studied art closely with Oscar Rabin. She would later participate in the infamous Bulldozer Exhibition of 1974.
