LOT NOTES
Mauricio Nayberg met Liao Chi-Chun in Taiwan during an official visit by Nayberg to Taiwan with a cultural delegation. During his post, he collected numerous objects and artworks. Upon completion of his consulship, Consul Nayberg returned to France, before being transferred to the United States. During this time, he gave numerous objects and two paintings by Liao Chi-Chun to his friend Paul Perez-Arroyo in Paris, including the present painting. A similar composition sold at Beaussant-Lefevre on December 9, 2022 (lot 26).

An influential Taiwanese painter and sculptor, Liao Chi-Chun studied painting at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts together with Chen Cheng-po and under the tutelage of Tanabe Itaru, graduating in 1927. Upon his return to Taiwan, Chi-Chun was a respected artist and teacher, and member of numerous art organizations including the Chih-Yang Western Painting Society, the Chidao Association, and the Tai-Yang Art Society. His style evolved over his career, and his works during the 1950s-60s demonstrate his masterful use of color to shape his compositions of the natural world around him.

N.B. Condition reports are available upon request. All lots are sold in as-is condition at the time of sale. Please note that any condition statement regarding works of art is given as a courtesy to our clients in order to assist them in assessing the condition.
