LOT NOTES
The present lot is a rare early and large nude by the Pakistani painter Jamil Naqsh. Naqsh has long been considered to be one of the most famous contemporary artists from Pakistan. His work is highly sensual, especially celebratory of the female form, modernist but refined. Naqsh combines Western aesthetic sensibilites with the cultural sensibilities of both Pakistan and India. He was born in Kairana, Uttar Pradesh and later moved to Pakistan, where he trained at the National College of Arts in Lahore. He currently lives in London, and his works have been exhibited worldwide and often appear at international auctions. Sitting No. 15 is an especially important painting by the artist, as it was chosen to be exhibited at the New York World's Fair in 1964 at the Pakistan Pavilion.
