Description:

FUTURISTS: ROARING PARNASSUS. A FUTURIST POETRY ALMANAC, Futuristy: Rykayuschiy Parnas [ROARING PARNASSUS].Petersburg: Hylaea (GILEYA), 1914. 225 x 168 mm. Mild wear to soft cover. 120 pages with Futurist Manifesto "Go to Hell" (Idite k chertu) insert under the cover. This almanac was a joint venture of Budetlyan (Cubo Futurists) and Ego Futurists. Poets and artists that contributed to this book include David and Nikolai Buliuk, Benedict Lipschits, Alexey Kruchenykh, Velimir Khlebnikov, Elena Guro (posthumously), Vladimir Mayakovskiy, Vasily Kamensky, Igor Severyanin, Ivan Pougni, Pavel Filonov and Olga Rozanova.
EXTREMELY RARE Here is the excerpt from the most comprehensive scholarly book on Russian Futurism by Vladimir Markov "Russian Futurism. A History":
... Futuristy: Rykayushchii Parna ("Futurists: Roaring Parnassus"), appeared in St. Petersburg in January, 1914. In addition to works by those who contributed to The Milk of Mares, one can find here two posthumous poems by Guro and the work of such Petersburg artists as Ivan Pougni (who designed the cover), Pavel Filonov, and Olga Rozanova. The book was published with money supplied by Pougni`s wife. It now seems incomprehensible that the publication was promptly confiscated by the Committee of Press because of the alleged pornography in Filonov`s illustrations. A close examination of these pictures, done by one of the most fascinating, though still little appreciated, Russian artists of the twentieth century, does not reveal anything that even by a great stretch of imagination could be considered objectionable: they are austere representations of human figures, betraying the influence of Russian icons. Only ten copies of the book could be secretly carried out of the printing house, and thus Roaring Parnassus is probably the greatest bibliographical rarity among the major futurist publications....
