LOT NOTES
Alexander Ivanovich Herzen (Iskander), was a Russian writer and political thinker who is often known as the 'Father of Russian Socialism.' His writings from exile played an important role in the Emancipation of the Serfs in 1861. Living in the United Kindom from 1852-1864, he founded, with the aid of Polish exiles, the 'Free Russian Press in London,' the first uncensored printing enterprise in Russian history. This collection of books is historically significant and quite rare.
