LOT NOTES
Elena Pavlova Oliv, whose orangerie Lanceray depicted here, was a notable art collector. Along with her husband Mikhail Oliv, the couple amassed an impressive collection of works by Boucher, Canaletto, Tiepolo, and others, as well as French decorative objects of the 18th century, which they exhibited at their home in Petrograd and later in France (see: A. Trubnikov, Sobranie E.P. i M.S. Oliv (Petrograd: Starye gody, 1916)). A 1914 portrait of Elena Oliv by Konstantin Somov is housed in The State Tretyakov Gallery.
