LOT NOTES
Vasiliy Kuchumov, a student of Vladimir Makovsky, was particularly drawn to historical subjects. The present lot was executed in 1916, the same year that the artist graduated from the St. Petersburg Academy of Art and received an award for another historical scene focusing on the period of Peter the Great.
