LOT NOTES
The present lot is an extremely rare example of the artist`s early work. There are very few paintings known from the pre-revolutionary period when the artist was studying under A. Titov, F. Roubaud, and M. Bernstein. Lebedev`s own artistic style did not start to emerge in his portraits and still lives until late 1920s. The importance of this work is in the visual demonstration of Vladimir Lebedev`s evolution of style: from the classical academic painting technique he was taught, into vibrant and laconic way of painting.
