LOT NOTES
One of the most influential artists of the Art Deco period, Erté (née Romain de Tirtoff in St. Petersburg) led an incredibly prolific career spanning more than 75 years, during which time he created universally recognized fashion, stage, and jewelry designs. Erté is perhaps most noted for his fashion designs for publications such as Harper's Bazaar and Vogue, capturing the decadent feel of the Roaring Twenties. A variation of this enchanting evening dress design appeared in a November 1917 issue of Harper's Bazaar .
