Clementine Helene Dufau studied at the Academie Julian under William Bouguereau, Tony Robert-Fleury and Gabriel Ferrier, some of the most important artists of the academic style. Academie Julian was one of the first academies to accept female students and also allow women to study nude, one of Dufau’s favorite subjects. The artist is best known for her posters during the Belle Epoque period with the most famous poster La Fronde, 1898, showing the rise of the feminist movement in France.
