LOT NOTES
According to the present owner, this lot was a part of a glass service ordered by Yelizaveta Alekseyevna Arsenyeva, a grandmother of Mikhail Lermontov, as a wedding present to her daughter Maria in 1811. After Yelizaveta Arsenyeva`s death in 1845, her manor in Tarkhany was inherited by her younger brother Afanasiy Stolypin. Neither Afanasiy, nor the members of his family lived in the house ever since it became in their possession. However, they always invested in the manor and the land being well maintained. In order to compensate their expenses, the Stolypins started to sell some items from the house. In this way, the present lot, as a part of a service for 40, was acquired after 1880 by Dmitriy Ivanovich Nevezhin, a Kiev-based merchant of the first guild. The service stayed in Nevezhin`s family since then, and only three items survived until the present day.
