of circular form, decorated with a gilt scroll rosette on the white cavetto, the burgundy border with a foliate gilt pattern between the gilt inner band and rim, diameter: 25 cm. (9 7/8 in.), each with an underglazed dated Imperial Cypher of Alexander III

LOT NOTES
Previously titled The Russian Service, fifty place settings were originally executed between 1809 and 1817 for use in the Winter Palace. It acquired the name Guriev, in honor of the director of the Imperial Porcelain Facory, when it was transferred to the Catherine corpus of the Peterhof. The service was expanded later in the nineteenth century to more than 4,500 pieces.
