Nikita Balieff was the creator of the Chauve-Souris [The Bat] theatrical group, which was comprised of Russian emigres performing Vaudeville-type acts of songs, dance, and sketches. Begun in Paris, the Chauve-Souris would also enjoy immense success in America starting in 1922 with its first tour produced by Morris Gest. The theatrical group appeared on Broadway in 1922, 1923, 1925, 1927 and 1929. In 1927 Balieff appeared on the cover of Time magazine. The program cover for his first American tour of 1922, which was painted by Soudeikine and features a smiling Balieff overseeing his production, is one of the programs included in this lot.
