A GROUP OF EIGHT RUSSIAN LACQUER BOXES FEATURING THE SCENES FROM FAIRY TALES, LITERATURE AND RURAL LIFE, MSTYORA

Of rectangular shapes and various sizes; all with hinged covers; featuring the scenes from Pushkin and Gorky, also from Russian folk tales (Ilya Muromets, Little Humpbacked Horse), and rural life; all in traditional Mstyora style of painting including an ornate gilded border running around the covers and the bodies of the boxes; crimson interiors; largest: 20.7 cm (8 1/8 in.) long by 6.3 cm (2 1/2 in.) high, smallest: 10.8 cm (4 1/4 in.) long by 2.6 cm (1 in.) high; some signed signed in Cyrillic Borisov, Pan`shina, some signed with initials; most of the boxes inscribed Mstyora in Cyrillic.
